I have tried to start a new project and also tried to import a 2019 project in Unity 2020 and it took about 10 minutes to initialize both, whereas in 2019 it took me about 2 to 3 minutes.
I don’t exactly have the fastest computer, but it is odd to me that it takes so much time to load when it used to be way faster. Can anyone enlighten as to why that is ?
The process of importing a project from an older version of Unity requires to re-import and re-create multiple assets and this is the main cause of delay in opening Unity while doing such operation.
Opening an entirely new project should take less time than importing an already existing project. Have you tried to restart your computer and create another new project to check if the time is reduced?
I just restarted my computer and recreated a project. It took me about five minutes, which is much better than before. I must’ve left an unnecessary process open or something. Thank you for the answer.
Loading projects (even new ones created in 2020) is way slower than earlier versions. I have a fairly basic new project (mainly UI at the moment) and it takes around 4 minutes to load, mainly on ‘importing…’. I have ‘compress assets on import’ disabled - this makes it take over 10 minutes if enabled.
