Hi,
Is this the correct place to get support from Unity for a possible bug?
I am running Unity 3.3 on Win7 x64 with an Nvidia Quadro 4800
I have successfully been able to use Skinned Cloth on simple objects and have it work ok, but when I actually try and use it on a character I have problems selecting points with the vertex painter in Unity to set cloth settings to it.
I would rather be able to use a Lightwave weight map created/painted in another application like LW and have Unity allow me to use that for the Skinned Cloth settings. I cannot find out how to do this or if this is even possible. Clearly Unity reads LW weight maps because it uses them for the bone influence on my characters with skeletons. I assumed that it would be as simple as selecting a named weight map from the Skinned Cloth component but I cant figure out if that is possible or how to do it.
Therefore I have tried to set cloth settings inside Unity on the vertices by hand using the tools Unity provides - but there are some bugs.
- if viewport is Textured, selecting a point on the front of the object actually selects an object on the back of it in a place dependent on your view. You must put it in Wireframe mode to select the points you want.
- the vertices boxes are gigantic for normal sized (i.e. human sized) objects – see the attached pic - I have to scale the object up 10 times in order to get the point selections small enough to easily select. This is a pain.
- Not all points of my mesh appear. They might be selectable, but only when zoomed in and hovering over the points.
- weird lines connect various points randomly…?? Not sure why this happens.
- It is very hard to select or paint points without inadvertantly selecting and setting other points you don’t want to affect.
For me the best solution is to allow the use of externally created weight maps to be assigned to cloth settings - if this is not possible, it should be a feature in the next release. Otherwise, we need the selection bugs fixed and other new tools allowing the hiding and showing and selecting of vertices to make it easier to set points in, say, a simple (but higher res) character’s skirt like the one I’ve attached here. Note the weird lines connecting points not connected by polys…??
Any help or confirmation of these bugs and workarounds / fixes is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your help!
