Hi again everyone. So been hands on 3.5 for a bit now , full blown useage through out our project, and something odd has occured to me. It is quite possible im just off my rocker, and hadnt noticed before (although im am 100% sure i have been down this road pre 3.5, and this did not work)… here goes…
In 3.5, forward render mode, single lightmaps, i have all the stuff working just fine , Specular , bumped, diffuse, etc. A single directional light, and it indeed affects , and gives the proper light effects for the shaders, and maintains the proper shadowing, lightmap structure through out. But previous to 3.5, i swear to *(^^ this did not work. Single lightmaps used to not show any speec or bump at all. Im fairly ceratin this was the point to dual lightmaping.
Am i crazy , or is this indeeed a new change, a glitch in the system … or wtf is going on … haha. Im surely not complaining , in fact its a blessing hugely to se these shaders now working correctly with a single lightmap. But im curious , if its just me , or did Unity actually change something regarding this.
Hmm no one… maybe im wrong and they always did work, but not for me they didnt. O well , again , no complaints here , 3.5 is rocking my world so far (free version only unfortunately) haha.
The point of dual lightmapping is that it is baked lighting in the distance that fades to realtime lights and shadows close up.
I know that , but that wasnt the question… the question was , was something done that really improved Single Lightmap, Forward Render mode… cause before 3.5, spec and bump with a single lighmap (baked through beast) didnt seeem to work well if at all (speaking just of my own experiences).
If you get spec and bump its pretty surely not single lightmap but DLM lightmaps, the new type of lightmaps supported in 3.5 which does not bake a light color but the light normal kind off and hence can reapply the light as if it were dynamic, a thing that traditional lightmaps which only bake the final diffuse lighting at a pixel simply can’t do
Hmm , intersting indeed Dreamora, but from my understanding the Directional lightmaps are pro only. Long to short, when DLM was added in , it changed the rest of the lightmaps as well? As stated, i only have free , so DLM is greyed out and i cant use it. But thats why i thought it was weird that spec and bump were all working fine.
Anyways , thanks guys , again , no complaints here , the visual upgrade is astounding compared to 3.4
