Unity 3D rip off ?

I was wondering if this was a rip off unity3d.ca/ because it looks a bit fake ? :expressionless: or maybe it’s just me because I never saw anything this or any link to this, my friend found this the other day.

I mean it’s about using unity but do the people have the right to call their website unity 3d ?

It’s a tutorial site. Just calling it Unity3D is a bit iffy, and a problem for the lawyers. But they are very clear (on the about page) that they didn’t make the product and are just helping people use it.

I don’t know much about copyright, I was just wondering, don’t wanna cause any flame wars here, I read a bit more to see and it’s about tutorials and stuff. It’s just the part of the name thing I didn’t know.

Not great- they’re offering the download themselves, it seems. Oops, I don’t think you’ll see much of them soon.

There website is terribly slow. And if I were them I would really worry about copyright.

they are just linking to the real unity3d website for the actual download, not hosting anything themselves except for their stuff (they have a few plugins/scripts it seems)

Wow this website is fake as hell. At least they are not selling unity3D liscenses

The guy grabbed the unity3d.ca name before we did. He asked us if he could use the name before he put it live and we said yes. Probably not the best idea, but he’s not trying to fool anyone. Read the about page.

very funny dude ! ripoff ? come on ! read the about page > wow man , i don’t make any money from that site and i have to pay for the upkeep of it and i got permission from unity b4 i even got the site >> im just trying to help people out here and i dont get anything from unity for having it

He may of advertised you, but you have just made a huge fool of yourself. that is not a very good way to go about talking and representing your ‘company’. Re-think your strategy.

And for the love of god, never ever incorporate comic sans(or anything similar) into your logo. artists everywhere are dieing inside.

Not just art, any serious graphic in general.

Small guy simply banking on Unity3d’s brand.

For example if you note the title it says:

UNITY 3D
game development tool

When, if he was to be honest about the site it would say:

ULLUKAI GAMES
Games, Tips and Tutorials

So yeah scammy and low class. Only redeeming features is that it’s not malware (AFAIK), and the sites so crappy a person with moderate u3d knowledge should see through it.

Ok, closing this one down as nothing good can come of it. Ullukai asked our permission to use the site name, we said yes. Nothing more to discuss and a thread simply making fun of the site doesn’t help anyone.
