Hi guys what you think is it possible to create web based-multiplayer games in unity 3d ?
Yes.
This is good example Domain name for sale - M2H
Don’t see why it isn’t.
Hi sorry if I bothered you but I am expirenced coder like about 5 years of coding in c# and I discovered Unity 3D and its seems like good program for development and because I dont know anything about it I wanted to ask can I create online-multiplayer games ![]()
we did a mmo with the webplayer. called “kartuga” but its offline now… but you can do it, sure…
Nice I find some informations about integrating unity 3d web player in to browser and Its seems Unity 3d is perfect tool for my game . Thank you guys
Just want to point out that there is a critical issue with web games in unity. The webplayer has a cache of 50mb shared across all unity games, so most of the time the user will have to redownload the data needed to play the level again and again.
To overcome this limit you have to enter in a special agreement with Unity team and I heard it’s available only for big projects.
sure maybe it was possible last year, but now this year if you have big plans for a browser game you might want to reconsider, as Chrome will soon completely remove support for Unity Webplayer along with all other Browser Plugins.
I have primarily focused on publishing browser games for the past 2 years and have actually earned a good living from doing so, but I have taken a huge lose in revenue in the past 2-3 months due to this as almost 72% of my user based was Chrome users. here check out this thread for more details: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/202136-Chrome-Blocking-NPAPI
Are they removing support, or changing to a new API? I was under the impression that it was the latter.
Your impression is correct.
apologies, yes Chrome is changing to new API… but technically this means they are removing support for the Current Unity Webplayer (NPAPI) Version, but Unity has yet to respond with a clear answer as to what they are doing about it. So as far as i’m concerned Unity Webplayer won’t exist in Chrome in a matter of Months if not less.
December 2014 to be precise.
I couldn’t find that precise date, could be sooner. But it’s expected before end 2014:
Also:
‘In September 2014, all existing NPAPI-based Apps and Extensions will be unpublished’
Graham, maybe you have direct communication with Google, but here is why i say in a matter of Months if no less…
Look at this Inaccuracy…
On this Google Blog it states Unity will be White-Listed in January 2014
BUT YET… do a quick search for Chrome Blocked Plugins and look what we find:
*yep Unity is NOT on a White-List at all, it’s currently being Blocked by Google… Need Proof? OK…
Do another little search for NPAPI deprecation:
http://www.chromium.org/developers/npapi-deprecation
This page states the following:
BUT WAIT… didn’t Google just say Unity will be White-Listed? all the while, if you go ahead and Uninstall Unity Webplayer from your Computer, and visit some Websites with Unity Webplayer on it, you may get the option to Download / Install it. But after that, try visiting multiple sites with Unity Webplayer and you will be Presented with the Above Prompt Asking if you Want to Run Unity Webplayer.
BUT WAIT… this clearly states above that this Prompt will ONLY appear for non-whitelisted NPAPI plug-ins, but that is not the case at all with Unity…
so… forgive me for not having any faith in your dates Graham. You may have the right information possibly, FOR NOW… until Google decides to change their mind again and pull the plug earlier… who knows… but everything I just showed you above doesn’t add up, leaves me with no hope for Unity Webplayer.
Google can probably explain why their documentation is contradictory. Dec '14 is the date that whitelisted NPAPI plugins will stop working completely. That is the date that plugins are whitelisted to. It looks like white-listed plugins currently still need to be approved by the user in order for them to run. (It’s possible that Google have some Chrome bugs that are interfering with things.)
not sure if we can call “so called white-listed NPAPI Plugins” on Chrome’s Block List here: Google Chrome Help any bug at all… Google is just doing whatever they want without a care for all us little guys, trying to force everyone to convert over to Native Client or Pepper.
i am 100% sure that they will sort something out before anything bad happens. and i’m sure it will still work with all the existing web builds out there. just relax and let unity take care of it.
@banreaxe, as Kuroato is pointing out, bad things are already happening - it’s hurting his bottom line. And in a larger sense, it’s negatively impacting the hard-won growth of the webplayer. Also, I’m not sure that the new version of the webplayer, whatever that is, will “work with all the existing web builds out there”. I suspect that, with regard to current webplayer builds, the user experience will not get better than it is today, and may get worse.
Funny enough, I recently updated my Chrome browser at work and home, and have gotten that particular dialog whenever I’ve tried to run webplayers. I can confirm Unity is not whitelisted, at all.
hmmm not sure how you expect Unity to develop a solution that will be backwards compatible with an API that won’t exist in Chrome past this year. So in words, that’s impossible…
although all webplayers will continue to work just fine on other browsers it seems. this is only a chrome issue, so It will be very interesting to see what Unity comes up with… as I imagine they want a cross-platform solution and not just a Chrome Solution, but who knows…
