If i make a clone of yu gi oh and i upload it to youtube and git hub just for fun and practice will i have a problem with the company?
I mean i will make it on my own but i will use the image of the cards and the mechanics of yu gi oh and music maybe so will i have copyright issues ?
I dont want to make money out of it. I want to practive and have fun and maybe people will see it on git hub for a job or something
You can not use the name Yu-Gi-Oh! or any of series / card-games content.
Be creative and do your own name and cards , be inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh! but do not clone it one to one.
That does not matter in any way to a loyer. Using someone’s intellectual property without there permission can get you a hefty reaction from there legal department.
You can absolutely make your own card game in the style of a yugioh game with monsters coming out of cards that are played, fighting to knock out your opponents life points etc. As long as you put your own touches on it so it’s not just yugioh mechanics copied verbatim and you don’t use any of their cards, monsters, music or other IP. But you can’t use anything that’s taken straight from yugioh, including their monster names, music, etc without their permission.
All advice above is spot on - except the mechanics. You can copy them exactly and still be fine. Mechanics are not considered IP, however pretty much everything else is.
Though to be original - you might consider editing mechanics to improve gameplay.
yah i just wanted to make a yu gi oh game to play myself cause i dont like theirs xd, i also wanted it to make it public so the world ll see it but i guess i better make a 2d game(3d takes more time and card games need time to paint the cards…). Any way thank you for your help and advice <3
@Panorc Haha. Why you don’t like theirs. Because of Zarc?
Anyway card design, image, name, music, title, icon, logo, characters etc. are all copyrighted.
You can try to come out your own unique idea which is fast pace like Yu-Gi-Oh!
Being a 15 years player of Yu-Gi-Oh! I would like to try out your game. Good luck.
