Yes, ofcoarse I did backup my data! I’m just sharing what Unity 4.0 did to my Project! totally destroyed it!
So that’s why I just downgraded back to 3.5.6, and curious how many others were affected.
My personal Opinion is this is really a Horrible Upgrade! I mean sure there may be lots of new features and so forth but damn! You would think Upgrading would be a little more smoother than this… apartly not with Unity
Well unless you tell us what broke it doesn’t really mean a lot to us. Are you referring to the breaking changes which we’ve been made clearly aware of, or are you referring to other things?
But also, never assume that an upgrade will go smoothly. This is why you’ll find that businesses often stick with “old” software - once a project has started they stick with the same major version they started with, so that significant changes in major updates don’t introduce subtle (or not) errors.
Only stuff I had that was important enough to worry about when I upgraded was some scripts.
Haven’t been into this all that long so there wasn’t so much to worry about.
Results are varying, most of the time conversion is completely fine, other times there is some tweaking to be done. But when people speak of it breaking horribly, it would be handy to know the details.
sorry for late reply… yes i guess the details will be helpful rather than ranting about how bad my upgrade experience was…
currently there is just too many things going wrong that I do not have the time to document it all and talk about it on here, as time is money as we know… and i need to get my project completed by just downgrading rather than wasting time on tweaking and patching things up…
If or when I have free time I will try to do the community a service and try to log all those bugs, breaks, etc…
I just felt to express myself here, and curious to see how many others were having a tough time with the upgrade as well.
Did you upgrade with the release version? I upgraded one of my projects with the first public beta, and it was terrible - all the prefabs were broken, and models that I had moved in the folder structure had their references lost, etc. I re-upgraded (from my backup) after general release, and it worked flawlessly with the new version.
