Unity 4.2 a lot of crashes

Hello.
I just wondering is every body have so much crashes on MAC OS with Unity 4.2.

I was using 4.0 version earlier and I event forgot how crash is looks like.
But I using 4.2 since it released and I have from 5 to 20 crashes a day.

And I don’t even see a point to send a bug report because it crashes without visible reason. On different projects.

Here is most common situation for crashes.

  • Open stage.
  • Create new stage.
  • Attach script to game object.
  • Script’s recompilation.
  • importing assets.
  • exporting assets

I am encountering the same issues. I had never had a crash prior to 4.2.0f4, but since updating to this version I have constant crashes when I:
Open a scene
Import an asset
Build the xcode project for iOS

I have submitted crash lo

I gave up on v4.2 and rolled back to 4.1.5 that has been quite stable. There are still things I can do in 4.1.5 that I know will crash it, but it’s OK for now. 4.2 was crashing all the time so I just gave up on it. I guess there will be a new version before the next Unity conference, as that seem to be the patter of releases. A month or so before a big Unity happening, they release a new major version with new features and lots of bugs and they use the time before the conference to get rid of the worst bugs (that users have reported back), so they have something usable when the users gathers and spread the word about how fantastic all the new stuff is… IMHO

Also on Mac OS…

I’m very dissapointed now post upgrade to 4.2 that I cannot build any webplayers. It simply loads up the webplayer in the browser and then gives me a message “unity error launching unity player” when I try “Build and Run” from the editor.

Havent seen much problems on pc/win7…

Guys, please just file a bug report even if you don’t write anything in it.

You don’t have to attach the project and you can call it crash dump snacks for all I care. But fact is that its all going into analytics that helps us locate the underlying problem. And indeed tell us there is a problem we should look for.

I have filed a lot of bug/crash reports. But after reporting the same crash for the 100th time, you sort of give up.
And in 4.1.5 the “report a bug” menu option do absolutely nothing. Nothing shows up… :frowning: (Mac)

Filed the bug report…

Have you seen this thread?

I already re-installed 4.1 version. Now I’am happy Unity developer again)

About this thereat, I hope it helps, but I’ll better wait for next Unity version with fixes.
I sure that next version should be stable.

I WISH my issues were with something inside the editor, but the fact is that I get a crash just running Unity period. It won’t create new projects or load the old ones. I saw somewhere that you need to add “-force-d3d11” to the end of the shortcut, but that didn’t work for me.

I would be perfectly fine rolling back to the old Unity version if most of the Asset Store packages didn’t require Unity 4.2. Kind of screws me over now matter which way I look at it. I filed a report just like everyone else, but I’m dead in the water until I get this issue fixed :(.

I sure that 99% asset store packages with require 4.2 working the same with 4.0.

I here is few solutions for you.

  1. Keep 4.2 version for asset store download purpose only
  2. Ask sailer to send you the package after you bought it, just send invoice numer to sailer for confirming purchase.

Three weeks I can’t work. Crash with every click in the hierarchy and the active window Scene. :frowning:

I don’t know if this is really a Unity problem, but my whole Windows freezes (reset) st. or I get crazy Windows cursors instead of my mouse when I copen my scripts. This happens with MonoDevelop AND Visual Studio 2010 Pro. Maybe this is a graphics driver problem, but I already reinstalled it.

I am getting frequent crashes with Mac 4.2 as well. I have submitted 3-4 crash reports, and will continue to do so, but I am not happy to see that people have been having this problem for over a month. :frowning: I trust they’ll sort it out eventually but this is very frustrating.

I barely ever shut down Unity, and both 4.2 and 4.2.1 have been stable for me on OS X.

What plugins do you use? And what OSX version? Real Mac or hackintosh?

Same here. I’m running unity free FWIW. I open my projects in both windows and Mac and both seem to be stable. However, both machines are very powerful, not sure if maybe it crashes more on lower end machines.

Yeah, I only have experience with 8GB and 16GB, both free and Pro. But I do run a lot at once, so there will actually be times Unity can’t get 4GB

My hachintosh is a i7 based (3.5GHz), 32 GB RAM, Geforce 640 2GB gfx card, 256 GB SSD, a few HDs with 3-4 TB storage. Every other application i use is running fine with out any major problems. Firefox can crash from time to time, but I guess that is flash that is crashing. I use NGUI, 2d Toolkit, Vectrosity in most of my game projects (Mainly 2D games for now) I use 4.1.5 still as this is the most stable version for me. I have tested out all of the 4.2 version, except the latest one (4.2.1.f4), but all have been crashing almost all the time. I do not dare test 4.2.1f4 until my current project is finished (a few weeks…)

I fear Unity will get a bad rep quite quickly (with 2 mill users) if they do not get rid of some of the major bugs. And any other company with a good game engine may see that there is an opening for their engine and use the unity methode of getting users (free versions) and kill of the whole Unity dream.
