Unity 4.5.x not starting (not responding) MacBook Pro OSX 10.9.4

Hello.

After the installation of Unity, Unity was asking me for an account. I logged into the account and Unity starts for the first time. After I rebooted my computer Unity was not starting anymore. If I start unity, I can see in the Activity Monitor that the Unity process is not responding. The interface and other stuff was not loading. After a couple of minutes I have to force quit the application.

Here some data about my mac:

Processor: 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris Pro / NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
Versions Tested: 4.5.3, 4.5.2

What I checked is, I started Unity while my NVIDIA graphics card was active. By starting Blender my computer will instantly switch from the Intel to the NVIDIA card. I checked this also while my Intel card was active. Same behavior same issue.

I reinstalled Unity often, without luck.

What can I do to troubleshoot. Does someone else have the same issue?

Cheers.

Open up Console and look for any log messages from Unity or the system when you start the editor.

Ok where can I find the log file(s)? And what I have to do with the Console?

Console is the program in OS X that shows the logs
(Use Spotlight to find it)

@orb thanks. I found it and I found some log files under ~/Library/Unity/Logs. I looked in the log files, but I couldn’t found anything. I attached these three log files.

1765882–111932–logs.zip (4.91 KB)

I see lots of licensing errors, and something that makes me think it’s having trouble reaching that server. Whacky idea: Go into network settings and ensure you are not using IPv6.

My network settings seems to be ok. Anyway, I found that Unity have a patch release: Unity Patch Releases - Industries - News & General Discussion - Unity Discussions

I installed the latest patch release: unity_update-4.5.3p4

With this installation it looks like everything is ok. I restarted my computer often to “verify” it wasn’t luck. It looks like Unity is starting all time.

@orb , thanks for your help.

Probably just sunspots then :stuck_out_tongue:
