Any quick early opinions on 4 and Win8?
Should it be any different than Unity and Win7?
I don’t know. That is what I am asking.
Works fine on my end. You obviously can’t export Metro-style games yet, but in general, anything that works well on Win7 works well on Win8’s Desktop mode.
And yes, I call it Metro, and I don’t care.
Other than an annoying warning about a hotfix that doesn’t actually exist for windows 8, it works fine.
I haven’t yet figured out what you’re supposed to call it, if not Metro. I know they had to change the name, but… What is it now? lol
They’re just Windows 8 apps now. And desktop applications are called… desktop apps.
Oh you meant the interface itself, I think they refer to it just as ‘modern UI style’.

Personally, I like the new navigational style on the PC, you get both the old and the new, all in one package.
Takes time to get more fluent.
Not sure if there are benefits directly with Unity though.
If you decide to upgrade your present operating system, back up everything you wouldn’t want to lose if your system gets hosed.
I ran the W8 compatibility program and took care of the one issue, then restarted from Windows 7.
I never got my Windows 7 installation or win8 running until I went out, bought the disk (had just downloaded online)
and formatted my drive. A real shocker and time consuming, but really better than upgrading the old win7 installation anyway.
The design language/style is called “Modern UI”, and the apps themselves are called “Windows Store apps” (that’s what Visual Studio calls them anyways).
Metro just sounds so much cooler.
- It’s cheap - $40, or $15 if you bought a new computer recently. I think the price will be going up at some point.
- You can laugh at all your friends who say it’s impossible to use on anything but a tablet.
- The Start Screen is very, very nice.
- The Task Manager is very, very, nice.
- Windows Explorer is very, very nice.
Basically, there’s no compelling reason to upgrade, but if you’re the type of guy who likes new stuff (like me), then it’s certainly worthwhile.
Looks like there’s a free trial at Lynda.com and there is at least one series on Windows 8 if interested.
Many people who get Windows 8 seem to enjoy it. I can’t speak for myself, but it sounds like it’s worth it to upgrade.
I think it’s now just “Windows 8 that is in-touch with its feminine side” 
Microsoft has not yet decided on the new name.
some divisions call it modern, other ‘Windows 8 style’ … a little mess after those years of PR to hammer it in as metro and its totally funny that they lost on that front given the fact that it was called metro for 2.x years since WP7 already which would void trademarks
And I personally love Win8. It solved all those hell annoying start menu search problems and combined search into a central thing. Its not apple finder yet but lightyears ahead of Win7 and earlier.
Also having a whole scrollable screen isntead of a nested menu is much more productive especially when you have Stardock Fences on the Desktop 
Windows 8 doesn’t have any advantage with Unity. But Windows 8 is a whole lot faster in general.
Everyone says that but I haven’t noticed a difference. 7 and 8 both run smooth on my system.
Its a little hard to notice, until you are shutting down or starting up. Its zuper fast at both of those.
I have noticed that’s faster… but then again, I also loaded it on a brand new solid-state drive, as opposed to the standard hard drives I’ve used Windows 7 on… so maybe that’s the difference
I’ve Win8 on my laptop since New Year and worked with Unity 3.5 and Unity 4.1 - everything is great! 
In my opinion Win 8 is faster and more stable then previouse versions.
