Congrats
Very sweet
Congrats to UT
Also interesting is that an engine in early beta (T3D) is ranked in the top ten.
Does not really speak for the industry veteran engines (or their progress offering / price)
Isn’t this list just a mentioning of the engines before the actual voting / grading?
Well I’m glad to see that XBox 360 was mentioned as being on the roadmap. 8)

That’s my understanding too Emil. This is just a run-down of ten engines, but if you look at the Develop Industry Excellence Awards page you’ll see the following engines nominated for this year’s “Best Engine” category:
Unreal Engine 3 (Epic Games)
Gamebryo (Emergent Game Technologies)
BlitzTech (Blitz Games Studios)
Unity (Unity Technologies)
Vision Engine (Trinigy)
PhyreEngine (SCEE R&D)
Duh - think you are right!
So still a chance to take the top spot

Great to see Unity in this years DIEA voting
BlitzTech???
Note that the only one that has a price is Unity.
I think the business model of Unity is a killer.
Wii is too expensive thought.
But the other’s engine hi prices will be just killed by the reliability of a Unity, tested and proved on more games and platforms, on games ranging from casual iPhone to (I hope soon) AAA titles.
Scotty, find me a new nagivator!
Should be easy pricewise for anyone having a Wii dev license.
Also its peanuts compared to other crossplatform engines with wii support.
Is Funcom developing an MMO in Unity?
+1 Seriously, the price of our engine on the Wii is really not that expensive from a console pricing stand-point. Yes, it feels expensive for those coming from the desktop/web/iPhone angle but that’s based in ignorance (not being rude, look up the word’s definition) about the costs and effort involved in getting anything on to a console (Wii or otherwise). You will invest a lot of time and effort, not to mention money, and in the end our Wii licensing fees are going to be a smaller piece of that puzzle. It’s $2000-$10000 just to get your Wii dev kit, then you add in the time/effort/expense of development, then you add-in the time/effort/expense getting your content approved and slotted into the publishing queue (if/when they let you in), etc. Our pricing is quite reasonable actually.
Is Funcom developing an MMO in Unity?
Yep. We did some PR about it last summer, here is a blog post I wrote last July that mentions it in brief (I’m sure more recent news can be found online).
How much is the Wii license?
How much is the Wii license?
WiiWare: $15k per title
Retail: $30k per title
FYI: the above information is also listed on the Unity Wii Publishing feature page.

Did those on the Jury even know about the Cry Engine 3 ?!
Did those on the Jury even know about the Cry Engine 3 ?!
Just because an engine is pretty doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best.
…Did you just dig this thread up from nearly two years ago to post that?
Dudes this topic is over about 3+ years old… seriously how do these topics get found
Did those on the Jury even know about the Cry Engine 3 ?!
This was three years ago, so: no they did not. Apart from Norman, who is prescient, but the other judges overruled him.
and what about Frostbite 2.0?
The zombie apocalypse is happening!!! I’m puzzled as to why RPG maker 2k3 wasn’t on there…
