Unity 4 Low Framerate / Performance with no obvious cause

Hello all,

Having problems in Unity 4 (4.0.0f7 indie) with extremely poor performance within the editor itself, have found another lost soul with a seemingly identical issue a week ago but with no resolution as of yet, and another performance issue probably unrelated.

A brief run down of events:

Working on project when for no obvious reason the frame rate dived to a crawl on playing the scene. Where before I was getting 140+fps it was running around 15-20fps.
Tried to fault find by disabling components / removing game objects with no result.
Created a new blank project with no imported assets - still running extremely slowly. 15-20fps
Uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled, now running slightly better around 60-65fps on both original and blank projects.
Uninstalled 4.0.0f7, reinstalled 3.5.6f4. Pre upgrade backup runs perfectly 140+fps

Any intel on this issue at all? Failing that anybody have any tips for downgrading a project? Suppose itll have to be bit by bit, thankfully i only have about 10 days work in 4 I need to recover.

OS: Win XP SP3
CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 460
GFX: ATI Radeon HD 4250

Regards.

Well shank me in the cockles I figured it out.

On a random setting smash around the program i found that lowering the quality to ‘simple’ and below restored Unity to the same performance level i had prior to it going dodgy.

Feel a little embarrassed I didnt think of that before tbh, however i hadnt actually changed the settings in the first place, at the time it happened i was bouncing back and forth from mono trying to figure out how to duplicate textures at certain positions around the terrain, nothing that could cause what happened. Further to that im not able to reproduce the 15-20fps i was getting at its worst, only the 60-65fps at ‘Fantastic’.

Solved.
