I have only just started learning unity recently and the book i am using was made at the time of about unity 4.1/4.2. I am currently using 4.3 which is perfectly fine for the book im learning from. I will continue to stay in 4.3 whilst im still going through the book and was thinking of updating to unity 5 after. I was just wondering does unity 5 really differ from unity 4 and will i struggle to use what I have learnt from this book (which is the basics of Unity) in unity 5?
Unity 5 really does not change from Unity 4. It’s very much the same. If you have made any projects, make sure to put them OUT of the Unity Folder before updating to Unity 5, or your projects will be deleted.

All the coding really hasn’t been changed much. There has been some changes, as you can see in the link above ![]()
Sorry for the late reply but thanks for the advice. Especially about it deleting projects, I didnt know that so that could have ended badly for me xD. Also I will probably read the upgrade manual in depth once I am ready to upgrade. Thanks again! ![]()
Yeah. It deleted my games that I had spent literally 40 hours+ on… But now I know
We all make mistakes, I guess.
Glad it saved you lol.
Well more generally, don’t save your projects in the Unity folder. You don’t do that with other applications do you? Save it in Documents or something.
Isn’t that what I already said? XD

er, maybe in another thread?
No. Look at the second post.
Here: " Unity 5 really does not change from Unity 4. It’s very much the same. If you have made any projects, make sure to put them OUT of the Unity Folder before updating to Unity 5, or your projects will be deleted. "
No, he’s suggesting you never save anything there in the first place.
Yeah I said don’t put them in a folder that is out of the Unity Folder.
