Unity 5.3.5f1 detaches attached state machine behaviors in animator, help

[SOLVED] Unity 5.3.5f1 detaches attached state machine behaviors in animator.
This has happened three times now after upgrading a few days ago.
No error messages are thrown, it just happens.

I am wary of updating mid-project, but am having some other inexplicable results around state machine behaviors so I am considering it. Have you had any new issues with update?
