Unity 5.4.1 crashes and texture issues

Hi,

First of all it is maybe worth to say I just started to learn the software, therefore my concern could be something that has already been answered or it might be something I haven’t yet checked due to my “rookieness”.

I just updated to the latest version from 5.4.0, which was working fine with the project I am working on. However, since the update i have the following issues on the workflow, which I cannot overcome:

  1. Every time I open the project and try to change point of view using the alt key, it freezes and then Unity crashes. Same thing happened when I added a speed tree. Sometimes i cannot even manage to save between placing a 3d object and duplicating it. It just makes everything so frustrating to cope with, especially for a beginner.

  2. When applying a texture by dragging it onto a 3d object, most of the times the texture is not applied. Is there any specific spot on objects that I have to drag the texture to?

Just to provide a better overview of my settings, I am a Mac user, currently running OSX Yosemite on a macbookpro (first 2011).

I would be grateful if someone could give me the chance to restore my crashless workflow i had with 5.4.0.

Thank you in advance for any advice.
Regards.
Luca

Furthermore:
I went back to v.5.4.0 to see if i could go on with the project, however the crash occurred again, hence it is not the version of unity that causes it. I suspect it could be the flash trees.

I really need to receive a feedback as it has been already two days i cannot work on my project and sincerely I am not in the mood of re-building everything from scratch, since it already took me more than a week of work to reach this point.

Any answer, even for a hello, is more than appreciated…

@Cybernova, I wish I could help. I have a similar issue on a Windows machine. When I click play, it freezes and crashes. The only real change I made was to add in a list of 10 game objects, which shouldn’t crash it. Prior to this, it never crashed on me when I clicked play. When I let it run for awhile instead of killing it in the task manager, I get multiple popups that say “Too many heaps”.
