I got really excited at seeing Unity 5 go live, since I have not touched it for 2 years now. The graphics looked amazing and the possibilities endless, so I downloaded the new Unity 5 Editor.
Sadly it has the same pale grey interface like before, which is a huge let down in my eyes. I compared with the editors of the Cry Engine and the Unreal Engine, which look much more appealing to work with when it comes to user interface and eye strain.
Even more sad is that this seems to be like it can not be changed by the user? I found no alternate skins on the internet and also the dark skin, which would at least give my eyes a rest, is only available if you pay a rent…?
Why is the Editor skin a consideration completely left out for this huge update? I mean I LOVE how you made Unity 5 for free, but why save up on THIS?
Here are also some comparisons to other editors, in which you can see how they use space, size and colour to make more use of the way we use our eyes on the interface:
If your best line of reasoning is eyesight then @hippocoder is likely going to lock the thread within the next few posts as this has been continuously brought up and shot down. Honestly the topic has been discussed to death period. It has been commented on by Unity. By the moderators. By practically everyone in General Discussion. Unity’s stance won’t change.
You have three choices. Alter your local lighting conditions to reduce the strain, purchase Unity Pro, or use another engine.
This wasn’t personal attack, though. He said your arguments were stupid and wrong, not you as a person was stupid and wrong. Not that I agree with him or anything, but that wasn’t a personal attack.
