Unity 5 Linear space

Unity lighting has been ok(I was very happy my several Unity 4 projects. They were linear) until I switched to Unity 5. Here is the issue I am having. I am not sure this is only me or others having this. I would appreciate if anyone gives me some inputs on this. It seems the new standard material(PBR) does something on the gamma, linear curve or Unity 5 lighting is quite different than the predecessor.

See the image below I tested. Linear is burning in Unity 5 rather than smoothly spreading and the dark area is still dark as gamma.

For the Unity 5 setting,
I removed skybox. Solid black is ambient color, there is no second light source to the scene.
Only one spotlight with intensity value of 1.5.(intensionally increased abit to see the difference)

HDR on camera + Tone mapping?

It’s the screen shot of the setting. I checked the both HDR on camera on /off but nothing makes any difference. There is no tone mapping. Forgot to mention. It’s Forward rendering.

That’s pretty much what you should get from a small spotlight. There is nothing in its surrounding to reflect back bounced light.
Think about it. You cannot light up a large, open place with a candle.
I’m sure that the first two image had ambient lighting.
PBR rendering is about being physically correct.
