Me and my friend are developing a game. We will create a shared Unity account. We are not a company but we have a developer name which will be used while publishing on Google Play.
When I try to create an Unity account, it asks for “Full Name”. What am I supposed to write there? Do I have to write one of our’s name?
Regardless there is no advantage to this. If you make more than the threshold for Unity Personal you will each need to buy a license, if you buy assets that are marked as per seat you will need one copy for each of you, etc.
So I can set this acount for Unity Ads, then create organization and invite my friend? Money which we will earn will be on my account or on the organization?
If you don’t have a real company then always only one of you will be responsible of everything legally plus the one who receives all the money. There is no sharing.
There are several other forms of business entity that can be set up for sharing revenue. And in many cases you can simply put more then one name on a legal agreement.
The primary purpose of a company is to limit liability of investors. Unless you have investors whose liability you want to limit, its kind of pointless to set up a company.
And IP. I think liability and IP are the two primary purposes.
It’s a quagmire for IP if the game goes gold and one partner walks away, if your not incorporated in some way.
I was talking about it in relation to Unity. Based on the original post I assume it’s just a couple of friends making a game as he said there is no company and from that I also assumed there is nothing in a legal form. Unity Ads is also a separate branch which operates from Finland and they only pay via invoice to a company or a single individual. That’s why I said real company needed but maybe it was a wrong word and entity is better one depending where you live
