Since OUYA will be using a modified version of JellyBean when it comes out, will Unity work on OUYA simply with an Android build, or will OUYA be seen as an additional platform?
Also does anybody know the difference between the dev kit and the retail console?
Don’t see the point in spending $800 now for a dev kit that will arrive in Jan, when the console is out in March/April.
The ‘devKit’ is already rooted, you just plug and build.
And it is still Android, there is no way UT could charge another license for that. Ayways, good luck on that marketplace… High hopes, low expectations here.
They are not doing an entire OS, chances are you will be able to just need Unity Android for it.
However: I do expect (if they bother to do any real work) that the console makers will add some special APIs for things like controller input and their match-making service (again if they think they can pull that off) and for that you may need to get some SDK from the Ouya guys, be it free or paid is up to them (they may force you to get their dev kit to get access to it, or they may just give it free for all and even make Unity plugins themselves)
All the information is out there, but I imagine it’s hard to find if you haven’t been following it. But basically the info we’ve been given is: Make your game for Android. The OUYA Development Kit (ODK) will be released by December 28 when the hand-made early access consoles (dev kit) are sent out and will be available to all developers for free, regardless of whether they bought the dev kit.
