Unity and PS3

What is the future of unity for console development ? I see this page :

And i was happy to learn you need to make a unity compatibility with PS3.
And i have a question. What is the price for a game development on PS3. Must we pay for a sony license or is there an indie licence ?
Thx for answer

There are no hobby licenses for the PS3 a la iPhone if that is what you are asking about.

You need at least dev licenses and dev kit etc, so without serious funding, you won’t get onto the playstation in any form. Already the Unity license will cost you a serious amount of cash in relation to PC / iPhone licenses. The Unity Wii license gives you an idea, I would guess 2 - 5 times as much is realistic for a ps3 license.

Nothing in what we are going to be doing will change your need to be a licensed/authorized Sony developer. It’s just that instead of writing your own engine from scratch you’ll be able to build off of ours as middleware. The process of getting approved and securing a dev kit itself won’t be cheap nor easy, then on to that you have to add the cost of Unity licenses and an engine license for your title(s).

As noted above, look at our Wii pricing as a general tool to wrap your head around order of magnitude for pricing (not an exact parallel of course, but to get the notion that you’re talking in the tens of thousands of dollars, not hundreds or low thousands). The simple fact is that console dev work just isn’t likely to come at a Unity Indie price. But as always, times and plans/pricing can shift so nothing is final until we announce that we have something you can buy (and for now, all we have is a position open to hire for so we can’t really discuss pricing on non-existent software).

And I’m amused that so many people are treating this like it’s a new job opening, we’ve had an ad up on our site for a PS3 developer (and others) for months now (go look here). We’ve repeatedly stated here on the forums that we’re expanding our platform support (consoles, mobile, etc.) so look for cool and exciting news on those fronts as we find folks and get some serious work done!

At least as far as the dev kit goes, from what I hear, it cost 2K however I have no idea what other costs there are (and I am sure there are more).

The first thing you need before anything else is even a topic is a dev license.
This requires an established and stable business which allows you to create games from beginning to end financially that meets the minimum requirement for PS3 games and pass the Q&A. Commonly part of those requirements include that you have a proofen track of beeing able to create games.

So, when is the Android version for mobile phones coming out? :stuck_out_tongue:
