Unity Animation Events - Drop Down vs Parameters

Hey there, I’m trying to add an animation event. However rather than be presented with the following dialogue (which is what I desire and in the 2017.4 manual) :

Instead I’m being presented with a drop down list of functions:

Any ideas if and how I can revert to the former version?

Going back to that Unity version is about your only option.

But why do you actually want to be able to misspell function names and not know what the available options are?
