The Unity Answers website is very slow and buggy. At this moment I get timeouts and can load the page. (e.g. error code 408.) And if the page is loaded the css styles are ugly and the functions like show-more-comments and the answer-post button and area text is sometimes hidden.
In short: Please change the answer engine / library. This is really lame and annoying.
I’d say Unity Answers is in a persistent vegetative state. Technically not dead, but virtually unresponsive, and will probably take a court order before Unity is willing to pull its life support.
No. They’re wildly different. Unity Answers is about getting a straight answer to a straight question. The forums can provide that but it’s much more than just getting answers to questions. It’s about having discussions centered around them.
For basic questions this isn’t necessarily important but for complex questions it’s a different story because an answer may not provide everything you need to know and that’s assuming the question had enough information to give an answer at all.
Both can co-exist just fine but only if there is sufficient support for them. Unfortunately Unity has no interest in providing said support for Unity Answers. They’ve made this abundantly clear and it’s been this way for years now.
