Unity as VJ application during DR's PublicService 2007

Next Friday and Saturday (17. and 18th of August) DR’s (Danmarks Radio) Public Service (a Electronic Music festival) will be held at the new DR headquarter in copenhagen. The city is already full of posters, flyers and stickers!

We (shiftcontrol) have been asked to do visuals for one of the stages (in Studio 5, artist booking by CultureBox) and have (soon) developed a full-wall, two-projection setup to be filled with Unity generated content.

The content is both audio-reactive and interactive, attempting a ‘marriage between reactive graphics and gameplay’. The audience can interact with the content through two arcade-style devices in the room, and we (eh, as VJ’s) can add additional control with a midi controller.

All input is collected and processed by a Processing application which then relays the data over the network into Unity.

Come and play!

Futher info and images of the show will be posted at http://shiftcontrol.dk after the event.

whoaah, this sounds very cool! hope it goes well

I know it’s an old topic, but I… just saw it!!

can somebody give some more information about that maybe???

This isn’t an old topic! It’s brand new

This sounds so cool! Are you guys going to be doing any other performances of this type over the next few months in Copenhagen?

would love to
we did a lot of work to get this version built, so it would be a shame not to show it more than once - not that vj-ing is what we are planning to do, but a bit of silly/nonsense work is always good…

I went, it was pretty cool. I met the shift control team and danced around some

Pictures: Facebook
I don’t have any pictures of the shiftcontrol stuff though.

the event was nice, wonderful to do live stuff, wonderful to meet Yoggy, Valdemar and Joe - we should do this again soon!

(we’ll post images later this week)

thanks,

j.

Sounds like fun, nice work!

Hi.

We updated our website today with content from PublicService. There’s a bunch of images and screengrabs from some of the scenes → shiftcontrol : PublicService07 Realtime visualizations

that is AMAZING guys - you are always doing such interesting projects ; )

i think my fav is the walking thugs or the animal hop - looks like that event was alot of fun. out of curiousity what genre was the music? (i thought i saw some turntables there)

EDIT - reread the first post ; )

i was going to alot of raves back in the day (early 90’s) and many had large visuals displayed - i never saw anything interactive (its was always intersplicing of cartoons, anime, 70’s style psycedelics cult movies etc.) - though once or twice i’ve seen it linked to the music - barely ; )

yeah - some of the ‘conceptual challenges’ here was to challenge the ‘traditional toolkit’ still used by the majority of VJs.

Ahhhh, how well that fits into my college memories…

Do you (ShiftControl) see this as a longer-term effort to make VJ software? Perhaps competing against the likes of Motion Dive Tokyo or others? Or was this more of a one-off project?
