Unity Asset Store Payout Request Failed

I hope you can help me with this: I have been selling assets since December and both payouts since then (December and January) have failed. Everything before the actual payout seems to work: Unity creates invoices, updates my my balances in the revenue section of the publisher portal and sends the payout approval emails.

But then I get the notification that I should update my payout profile due to incorrect payout details.

I doublechecked everything. There is nothing wrong. I even updated everything to trigger a re-evaluation by Unity:

  • I provided a working payout method (PayPal) in my Unity profile, which has been successfully validated by Unity.
  • I am running a business, have a PayPal business account, provided my business VAT (which has been successfully validated by Unity as well) and have added my company name in my payout profile.
  • I have the minimum payout amount set to $0.

After approaching the Unity support with this issue, they asked me to check with PayPal, which I did. As expected, PayPal confirmed that my account is correctly set up, working, and that Unity did not make a transaktion. All other transactions, incoming and outgoing, work perfectly. So there is nothing wrong with my PayPal account, it’s on Unity’s side.

Did anyone else encounter any similar issue and can give me a pointer what to do? From my accounts everything looks as it should be working.

I had the same problem when I first started. There is very little feedback from Paypal and unity when the transaction fails.
This depends on several factors. Mostly the way banks in your country handle PayPal.
Some countries have no way of regulating Paypal (Bosnia in my case) so Paypal won’t allow you to have money on your Paypal balance. If you get paid it will go to your Paypal account and then instantly to your bank account card you provided. You need to be sure you CAN receive money via that card. This is the list of countries where it will go straight to your account Country/Region of Residence and Available Services

Second problem might be the currency you are using. For example, my Paypal currency was not set to dollars and it refused payments (Manage currencies).

Don’t get disheartened if it is not working. It might take several tries but eventually, you will get the money.

If it’s not due to these things, I have the same problem right now. Unity sent me this “We noticed that the payout attempt failed due to incorrect payout details. Please update your payout details through the Id portal in order to process payouts in the future.”

The problem is my payout details haven’t changed. It worked for 3 years. My card got expired 3 months ago and got replaced. The replacement was Mastercard debit instead of Visa Electron. From the Paypal side, I got no info that transactions exist. From unity side i got a transaction with status Reversed.

Anyone else with the similar problem/solution.

The issue has been resolved. As the process was very confusing for me, let me share some insights:

The reason for the issue was, that I changed the primary and secondary email address on my PayPal account. I also updated the mail in my payout profile, but the transaction was triggered shortly before this update.

If this happens, the payout “hangs” for 30 days. Then you receive an email, that the payout failed. (This is the email I interpreted that the next payout failed also, which was not the case - shortly afterwards, the trasfer for January was fulfilled)
After 10 additional days, the payout is tried a second time. (Finger crossed it will go through this time)

I’m in trouble. The store does not return my money for the sold models, 5 months have already passed. The support service does not answer and does not even check and does not explain what is the reason. The support service is a big minus. I think they are just scammers, I see no other option. Or just bully people.

May I ask you a question?
When the payout process failed, was your money taken or returned to your Unity account and you can try paying the next month? Because my payout failed this month by Paypal and there is no place through which I can find out whether the money is still in my account or gone.
