Unity coming to Linux and the Nokia N9

Hi,

As far as I know that Unity 3d finally support Linux but no official announcement yet :p, also I was so happy about supporting the linux based Nokia N9 “MeeGo”.

could anyone till me when to expect unity 3d for both? I believe they are both related some how :).

best regards guys.

There has not been any announcement in this regards. As for the Nokia one: I would suspect that was along the line of Union you heard about it which potentially means never for the general unity

I know there is no official announcement about the linux support, but:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unity_(game_engine)#Linux

About the N9:
http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Unite-11-Unity-Technologies-to-Bring-Union-Games-to-Nokia-N9-Mobile-Platform-1566594.htm

So do u mean that Union will be supported in the N9 but not Unity 3d? even though I would like to ask the same question

Is there any time to expect when Union will be available for the N9

thanks

Union is Unity but not the official releases. Also you can not just go there and go to the N9. You apply for Union and when a publisher or nokia decides they want your game you go there, otherwise you will never go there. Its not up to you basically.

And yes Linux was confirmed officially to be in the pipe (player building only, not editor) but that does not impact non-standard linux distributions and meego would definitely count as one as the new meego based crossover upon which Intel AppUp builds too. I would suspect that the official linux support would actually be ubuntu focused as it is the largest distribution - there is not ‘1 linux’ as you might no, each distribution is each own little universe and stuff working on others is not granted to work there at all.

well if your engineers build it as x11 then ill work on almost all the different linux distributions include (ubuntu, MeeGo, etc…)

Thanks

I am sorry but I fear you are thinking about an optimal world.
Optimal world has nothing to do with linux at all. Thanks to different kernel versions, drivers and other changes there is no way to avoid at least small portation and when you add meego and other 'non standard debian - red hat - mandriva derivates it gets an order of a magnitude worse. take meego. its focused at joke hardware, what do you think is its GPU driver optimization? or asked differently: did you ever hear that intel does not suck at it (like ATI, just without the bugs that ATI adds on top of the optimization mess in their try to compete with NVIDIA with fictive results in benchmark relevant games and apps)

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Flash player works on Linux, Unity will be able to export to Flash soon.
The main problem with that is, however that Linux doesn’t support hardware acceleration with Flash.
