Unity Console ?

hey just a thought it would be cool if Unity were to make a console of there own they already have a engine and a strong following have anyone else heard of someone talking about this or know if unity is planning to do so or how we can maybe send in a suggestion… lol I can see it now the all new UnityX1000 coming soon ha ha, but really has anyone heard of this being planned?

:sunglasses:RIO

hardware is a whole different ball game!

It would also be hard to not then make their console have advantages of others?

No.

Not happening.

Hell no.

One of the biggest focuses of Unity has been to insure that it runs on as broad a selection of hardware as possible. As such, it doesn’t really make sense for Unity to have its own dedicated console. Even if such a product were successful, it’s development would influence the design of the engine. And it is better for the industry as a whole if Unity continued to be the strong multi-platform engine that it is.

While there is plenty of promise in the microconsole market, I don’t see any reason for Unity to throw their hat into that ring. Especially not now that Sony has shown an interest. For the time being, it’s enough that Unity runs on most of these new platforms, and developers are free to put their Unity software wherever they please.

Cool just a thought

throw new Exception("Kernel panic. Bad memory in sector $IDEA. System Halt.");

How could you even ask such a thing??? *facepalm…

Haha just kidding :hushed:. While it is not bad idea… Unity’s partners (think Sony, Microsoft, OUYA etc) might see it as a bit of treading on their toes and that may affect relationships in the long run. But yeah a Unity console would actually be pretty sweet.

I would see no problem if it was an android device, or even better, a “developer-only/friendly” device with some cool debugging/profiling/etc features, you know, emulate OpenGL isn’t the same thing as test on the actual device…

OUYA is a partner?!?!?! Considering how hard it is to put a game on its like Unity is trying to cripple it or something.

Well, ‘partner’ may not be the exact correct term. Not sure why you’re finding it so difficult? I’ve heard it’s a fairly straight forward process.

why would you want a developer only device? Who is going to buy the games lol

Android users… but I think it’s still a bad idea.

NO.

Not a chance.
