I think Unity 4 could challenge Unreal Engine and CryEngine, even Frosbite!![]()
Pretty impressive work:
Of courseā¦
Am I crazy?
My original reason for Unity was the flexibility in the engine and openness of itās API., languages supported,
The ToolSet, the Import standards, re-targeting too the various platforms. at a price one can swallow .
I needed unity, than those stated above cause those engines are outside my scope of experience at making application simulations were unity obviously is capable and still manage to pull off some great looking games. ![]()
yeah, look at the vid, they stole autumnal nature pack and other paid assets from the store, very rude dude
I think Unity4 challenges other game engines not so much because of itās graphics, but because of itās community and ease of use. UDK and Cryengine definitely have better graphics then Unity, but far. But Unityās simple API and encouraging community make developers want to develop with Unity!
Thatās a very nice asset wouldnāt mind using it myself !! itās only $75 to sub-license.
The citypark fountain looked sweet with nice meandering walkpath ⦠Mmm actually the rest of them are just as pleasing
āhow do you steal from the asset store?ā, he asked skeptically.
CryEngines graphics are shitty, Iāve played all the crysis that use CE3 and I always see some frame disappearance when the action gets to high, plus sound keeps dropping out on C1(the remake for consoles) and C2.
Sniper 2, I have to see if that issue persists in that game to be sure, but how can the devs of an engine make a game that is blah with it.
UE3 is good, but until recent builds, models and textures looked like clay to a certain extent. Now, not so much. UDK being the free version is good for more indies.
Unity4 is a bare bone engine that needs pro and either code it in or buy a package. However, you are not bound by royalties, and the simplistic graphics are great for certain games. Imagine playing Mario with Gears of War graphics.
So 15 minutes of the demo scene from Autumnal Nature Pack, and then him showing the inventory GUI he made.
Iām not sure thatās really enough of a start for a Zombie/FPS/RPG/Sandbox megagame to be excited about.
But as to the original topic, yes, Unity is a great looking engine, and the Autumnal Nature Pack is beautiful, as is the rest of Michael Oās work.
For talented artists itās comparatively easy to create impressive screenshots and trailers. But screenshots are not games. Actually grounbreaking games are a different thing and they require mostly creative thinking, and often engineering around problems and some creative artist ātricksā in unison.
this isnāt the video to show unityās power. I saw a lot of model and shadow pop from LOD issuesā¦and the only thing being drawn is the scene, no characters, logic, or ai is going on to slow things down.
Then get to work!
Yep. Right there is the point. I use Unity because it lets me make the game I want to make without hurdling through UnrealScript. And though I will still probably try working on some games in UDK (Iām an artist, okā¦Iām attracted to awesome looking stuff), I still develop my games in Unity cause I can learn it easily, mostly thanks to this awesome forum
So thanks!
