If you hold down the alt key while starting Unity, it will launch without opening the last project. You can then create a new project.
As for the troublesome assets, are any of them 3D assets in the modelling software’s native format? Do you get any error messages from Unity before it crashes? Does the Unity app hang indefinitely or does it immediately quit?
Hey andeeee – I’ve had this happen a few times, and did not know the ALT shortcut to prevent opening a corrupt project by default. This happened a few times to me on upgrades like 1.5, and when it did the project that was hosed would start to open, I’d get the importing assets progress box, but instead of valid names/file paths it would flash through numerous GUID-identifiers and then report a message box of some sort (also with a red “X” / error comment in the lower left status bar area) and then quit.
Now that I know the ALT start trick – if it will help – I can see about opening one of the prior corrupted projects to confirm the behavior. I’ll put a watch on this thread. Thanks
