Unity Crashes on startup

Hi guys,
I just got unity. I’m super excited to try it but every time I try to open it it crashes. I only get far enough to see the futuristic picture and the actual program window never opens.

This is the error I get:

Problem signature:

If anyone can help me get this running I’d appreciate it.

I’m having a similar problem, running Windows 7 64 bit on a laptop I recently got with a discreet graphics card and switchable graphics. I’ve seen threads that atrribute these problems to DEC but after adding the Unity exception nothing happened, I’ve also updated my graphics drivers and BIOS (no dice) my error report is similar and the problem seems to occur after the loading of the scripts when the texture resources are being loaded. Holding the alt key does nothing, the same problem will occur when importing any unity package and I can only run Unity if I delete the project or pack it is running and make a new project.

I can post a vid of the process if need be, having Unity working is kindof important to me since I’m about to start a new project and hopefully finish one too.

Holy frogs and a fudge cake I found the fix. I hope this works for anyone else with this problem - open up the shortcut and add
-force-d3d11
to the end of the link to the .exe

Quick note here - this will still crash the system if you load a new pack or project in editor, but things will work again after launching the second time

solution found at the bottom of this page

Other solutions for the same problem include
-adding an exception for DEP for Unity
(Getting the Unity Editor to Work in Windows 7 64-Bit - Questions & Answers - Unity Discussions)
-update drivers for various systems

Thanks Armillary,
That didn’t work for me (I feel like I did it wrong…) but it did lead me to another solution. I have a laptop with both integrated graphics and an nvidia card. To run it I right clicked the desktop shortcut and selected my video card under “run with graphics processor”. Working fine so far! [quote=“Armillary, post:3, topic: 514623, username:Armillary”]

Same problem to me with AMD “Switchable Graphic Tech”.
Unity stops crash if set to work in “High Performance” (using AMD)

I got this Problem yesterday.
I run Unity on a Virtual Machine. Now I want to run it on a new host.
Since then the 64 Unity Version crashes on startup while the 32 Version runs great.
I tried to add a DEP exeption, but it says it can’t create an exeption for 64-bit applications.
Even after a windows fix.
I don’t even know where to look.

But when I installed Unity 64 on another Virtual Machine it worked fine.
