Tried other solutions I’ve read online;
Ran it in compatibility mode
I’m up-to-date on all windows 7 updates
I’ve reinstalled multiple times
Any other suggestions would be appreciated
Hi there
Try to hold down alt-key right after initiating Unity. This will open the project wizard from where you can create a new project. Does it still crash even with a new project?
Cecilie/Unity QA
Did you watch the video?
Seems to crash on asset importing, not startup.
The assets are loaded on startup so it’s pretty much the same thing.
That’s why the Cecilie told you to try the new project method…it won’t be importing the broken assets.
.
No. I’m at work, wherein Youtube is blocked. Posting an image or log of the error would be much more beneficial and conducive to receiving help.
EDIT: Also, not having watched the video, did you try Cecilie’s advice?
The video demonstrates me launching it like so, it opens fine, and when I import an asset it crashes
I watch the video. That is very strange. Also why trying to run it in a compatibility mode?
If worse comes to worse, have you tried uninstalling anddoing a fresh install?
And please be nicer to the people trying to help you. You are lucky that people are trying to help because right now your attitude isn’t nice. I understand you are frustrated but relax a little here.
Other thing has anything changed from the last time it worked? Did it just start happening after you loaded up an asset? Meaning it was working fine before you loaded up xyz asset into your project.
It’s a new computer, and they’re asking me to do things that I’ve already done, for example I said in the OP that I’ve reinstalled multiple times, the compatibility mode was supposed to help, but it doesn’t work without it either.
Well I missed that in your initial post. That you installed.
Also gotta ask ? In order to figure it out. We aren’t next to you working on it so…
So new computer. Fresh install of the os. Fresh install of unity (meaning uninstalled shut down eat dinner came back booted up and reinstalled from a complete downloaded unity install file ). Tried the compatability but didnt work.
And yes ever call for a service on your internet or cell phone? Gotta follow the steps like it or not.
Next thing is when it happens on a clean new project submit a ticket. Because something is going on with your system and Unity.
Hi there
Sorry, only checked the first half of the video:
What anti-virus software are you using? Some can cause issues when starting up Unity.
Another thing could be the HW specs? What graphics card are you using etc?
As Archania wrote, submitting a bug with the things you’ve tried already is the best bet.

PROBLEM SOLVED EVERYONE!
It’s because I have multiple graphics cards, my Nvidia 780 3gb starts up when demand gets high, and unity doesn’t like it starting during loading, so right clicking and forcing it into either card works fine!
All my games support it switching to a different card during launch, just unity doesn’t like it! I’ll configure it to use the 780 by default
Here’s another video, thanks for the help;
Cool. Glad you got it working. Now make some awesome games!
Hello,
I’m having a similar problem mentioned in the OP and maybe you guys can help me out as well. I didn’t want to create a new thread (should I be doing that?).
I’m running Unity 4.2.1f4 and til this morning everything was going pretty smooth. I started getting the “Unity Editor has stopped working” error like in the OP’s video. Although mine appears before any importing even starts happening, so right at startup. I only see the unity 4 splash image and then the error. So the holding alt trick doesn’t work.
I tried disabling my anti-virus (Eset Nod32), did the DEP configuration where Unity is no longer affected by it, updated my directx and graphics card drivers, reinstalled Unity multiple times on different directories, always running it as administrator, also installed all Windows 7 updates. But I have a suspicion that the Win7 updates may have caused the problem in the first place. As I recall I started getting the error after the computer ran a couple of updates this morning. Unity ran smoothly before that. I also tried restored my system to yesterday, but weirdly enough Unity still crashes on start up. I also found the editor log in "%localappdata%\Unity\Editor" but it seems to be empty.
My related specs are below:
Intel i7-2600 CPU 3.4GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 (have only one gfx card, connected to 2 monitors via hdmi and dvi)
16gb ddr3 ram (dont have detailed info, can get if needed)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Really don’t wanna do a fresh OS since I formatted the whole drive just a week ago and set up all my programs the way I wanted. Don’t wanna spend hours at work doing the same again.
Sorry for the long post and thanks beforehand for all the help.
