Hopefully they will work with you to accept your money.
However in my experience, as surprising as it is, a lot of companies literally refuse to accept your money. I’ve had this happen countless of times, ranging from petty cash to thousanda of dollars.
I have no experience with Unity, hehe, but I’ve literally written emails to businesses saying, “I’m sorry, I think you misunderstood. I want to pay money for your goods and services, at the price you sell the goods at. I want to GIVE you my money.” assuming they somehow misread the emails and thought I was asking for a refund or something.
It’s pretty strange to receive a request, “Sorry, we don’t sell products, even though we are exclusively a business that sells products.”
GreenManGaming is one anecdote. I wanted to buy 4 copies of a game. They said I’m only allowed one according to their rules. I made my 2nd request, saying “You must have misread my email. I’m trying to GIVE you my money in exchange for your digital product.”) and their final reply was that if I request any further to buy their products at their listed price, they will ban me from the store. No contracts, no law, just their own business rules as they were a fresh faced startup (this was before they got big). Needless to say, I just created 4 new accounts and purchased 1 copy of the game with the same credit card 4 separate times. Such idiots.
But similar stuff happens all the time. Sometimes through legit rules (we only sell to distributors as part of our deal with them) and sometimes (as with GMG) because the business which exists to make money, doesn’t want your money, no matter how hard you try to give it.
I’ve even tried to donate free money to an indie developer becauss I felt their game was worth more than I paid and their response was, “No. You already purchased the game once for $10. Keep your money.”
Most businesses are smart enough to go out of their way to offer at least some kind of sale based on your need. But every so often, one won’t want your money.
Always surprising though, especially when you want to pay them >$1000 for their products at whatever price they sell it for. (I’m NOT talking about bartering or trying to get discounts. Just trying to buy products at listed values.)
Once again, im not talking Unity. Just a great thread to share some stories in bc of the title.
