Unity Editor: exe. and other files for unity missing after pc reset

I recently installed Unity as it was an option while getting Visual Studios. I made sure to run Unity and start a project to verify that it had been installed properly. After a restart of my pc a few days later I noticed my desktop shortcut for Unity was broken (image for shortcut was gone and the file it points does not exist). Attaches is an image showing what is left of Unity in my install folder for it.

Unity is still listed under my installed programs as well.

This happened to me years ago and I was never able to fix the problem. I was unable to properly uninstall or reinstall Unity. Last time I had to reinstall the os to fix the problem.

Does anyone know why this is happening so I can avoid it in the future and what I can do to fix this? I really don’t want to wipe my PC at the moment.

This is a shot in the dark, but it sounds like your PC tried to recover from an error by reverting back to a previous system restore checkpoint. I’ve never heard of a case where this done automatically and end up getting corrupted somehow, but it’s possible, I suppose.

You could try forcing the system to reset back to a checkpoint from before you installed Unity, which hopefully will allow you to re-install Unity.

If that fails, you could run regedit and manually delete the Unity install keys from the registry in order to re-install it, but this is a last resort option as it can be easy to mess up your system if you accidentally delete the wrong keys.
