I have upgraded to windows 10, and i was installing the latest editor version 5.1.2f1 and when finished installed popup message " Unity Editor has stopped working" and i can’t use Unity. i was working on windows 8.1 but i was using unity editor 5.0, and it was working fine, Any advice?

Just want to let you know mine is up and running, just had to re-activate my license. So far so good. If anything comes up I’ll be back.
Are you using Lavasoft, if so, that is currently causing a crash so try using virus scanning software.
Additionally you can try again with a clean install of the newest version, seems to work for some.
I tried unity editor 5.0 and it is working, but it crashes when i install 5.1 i have no idea why

no am not using Lavasoft, i have tried uninstalling and installing a clean to the latest build 5.1.2f1 and it is still crashing

I looked in C:\Users\Hisham Hosni\AppData\Local\Temp ,but i couldn’t find the crash.dmp
i only found empty folder of unity.
Crash dumps do not get created automatically. When Unity crashes and you get “Unity Editor has stopped working” dialog, don’t press “Close program”: instead, open task manager, details tab, then find Unity.exe there, right click it and press “Create dump file”.
Windows 10 is still very buggy. I tried upgrading to it yesterday and it wouldn’t “take” my video drivers made for it from nVidia. I’m back on Linux. I suggest going back to Windows 8.1
Hmm… I have been running Windows 10 on my laptop (Fujitsu convertible tablet PC) for many months (thanks to Technical Preview) and now on the “official” version. Have had zero problems. I have Unity on it, too, but it’s not very powerful so I’m only using it for mobile development of my old app (in fact, I installed legacy version 4.2 … but I can say this: that version works fine)
I ran the tech preview a few times, and had mixed feelings about it. Some builds broke things, like the Start menu, some software wouldn’t work.
Anyway, I didn’t mean to hijack the thread. Hope you guys get your Unity working. I’ll continue to wait for the Linux editor.
Just a heads up: the bug report that got submitted to us is fairly useless - it doesn’t tell anything else apart that it’s crashing, which we already know. It also seems to only affect a subset of people, as we’ve not been to reproduce it in-house.
I have just upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1/64bit and the Unity editor freezes when either resizing the window or selecting the camera (or any sub window pop up).
Started with 5.1.2f1, then upgraded to p2.
I have tried compatibility mode and switching between on-board Intel graphics and NVIDIA.
I have also tried changing display modes because this is a 4K display and enlarging sometimes causes problems within applications. Please note that equivalent display size was working on 8.1.
Running on MS GS60 Pro 4K, NVIDIA GTX 970 (DXDiag.txt attached).

Hey, I looked into the dump. It showed exactly what was happening in your case. Looks like there’s DLL called “NahimicMSIOSD.dll” which hooks into Unity and causes a deadlock. Unity calls SetWindowPos API on the main thread, which is hooked by NahimicMSIOSD.dll. It seems like it enters a critical section and then calls the real SetWindowPos API. That, in turn, calls back to Unity’s WndProc, which asks our render thread to resize the backbuffer and waits until it’s done. Unity’s render thread obliges and resizes the backbuffer, ending the operation with creation of SRV for the backbuffer. That calls into d3d11.dll, which calls another API which is hooked by NahimicMSIOSD.dll. I could not determine what it was, however, once back in NahimicMSIOSD.dll, it tries to enter the same critical section that’s held by Unity’s main thread, since it’s waiting for the render thread to finish. BAM, deadlock!
Do you happen to know what might be this NahimicMSIOSD.dll that’s hooking into Unity? I think you can workaround it by running Unity with -force-gfx-direct cmd argument - it will make Unity not create a separate render thread. However, it will reduce rendering performance.
Not sure if this helps, but I Googled NahimicMSIOSD.dll and found some related crashes due to this dll. Apparently Microsoft likes to change things and not tell developers everything they’re doing at the core level, and it ends up breaking stuff. I’ll link the pages from Firefox, GTA and Unreal.

It’s not Microsoft’s DLL (it’s not signed by their certificate, and they sign ALL their DLLs). It comes from some kind of third party software, but I’m not sure what. Maybe anti-virus?

I’ve been having problems with Unity crashing or running so slowly for the last month and never figured it was because of Nahimic.
First I was running Windows 8.1 and Unity 5.1 and then sometime last month I felt my project get corrupted and Unity would become unresponsive and the editor would have graphic problems and crash, and playing the project in editor went from +500 fps to 16.
First I thought it was my new nvidia drivers causing the graphic problems, or unity problem or my windows install getting corrupted.
So over the last day I did a clean install of Windows 10 with new drivers and was so disappointed when my project still become unresponsive again.
But after finding this thread I uninstalled the Nahimic drivers and Unity worked perfectly again.
Guessing this is more a Nahimic problem, I’ll try and get in touch with them to let them know.
