Unity editor low frame rates and flashing while pressing keys

Hey all, I’ve been having some problems with the Unity Editor on a new build lately. Whenever I try to play a scene in editor, parts of the editor flash and massive frame drops happen whenever I press a key on my keyboard. I’ve taken a video of it in a new, empty to project to make sure that it wasn’t something that I’ve done, but it still happens. https://gfycat.com/BrokenEsteemedGossamerwingedbutterfly That’s just me pressing some keys in an empty scene.

Here’s the specs of the build.

Operating System

Windows 10 Education 64-bit

CPU

Intel Core i7 6700k @ 4.00GHz

RAM

16.0GB (2x8 GB) GSkill Ripjaw V @3200 MHz

Motherboard

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. MAXIMUS VIII HERO (LGA1151)

Graphics

VG248 (1920x1080@144Hz) (Monitor)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 (NVIDIA)

Storage

465GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB (SSD)

931GB Western Digital WDC WD1003FZEX-00MK2A0 (SATA)

This hasn’t happened to me on any other PC I’ve used, and I don’t have any other problems in other 3D applications on this machine, so I’m not sure what’s going on here.

This is happening on Unity 5.2.1f1.

Well THAT is an interesting video. Thank you so much for including it! Have you submitted a bug? If you have can I have the Case # please??

If not, please do, then post the Case number  Thank you soooooo much!!

Hi, just posted a bug report. The case number is 733053.

I have the exact same problem with all unity projects (new ones and the example project).

Interestingly I have almost the exact same computer as OP, except a slightly different variation of the mainboard and a 980TI.

I am new to Unity, downloaded it yesterday and the Updating License tab froze, when i tried to restart the program flickering occured. Ive reinstalled unity and still it will no move on to the survey section of the initial setup

Ive submitted a bug but was wondering if anyone knew of a way to fix the issue, here is a screenshot of where I cant move forward

Just checking in  I saw the bug came back “not reproducible” Are you able to send any more info? Did the issue resolve itself?

(I’m facing the same problem as OP and have almost the same hardware configuration.)

What kind of information can we provide? What’s telling is: Op has an ASUS Maximus mainboard and me too (almost the same), I have a 980 (though in the TI version) and I have an i7-6700. I reported it to Unity too and got the case number 741605.

Are there any additional debug logs etc we could provide?

Kind regards,

nopenope
