Unity editor running very slow.

Hi. I’m having some issues with the unity editor. I have the editor on the D: (hard drive) and the project is on a USB Drive: (Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 2256). My CPU is :Intel(R) Core™ i7-f790k CPU @ 4.00GHz and the GPU is: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series. I don’t have much room for upgrades and because of the speed, the prefabs I try to import end up being suspended because of Unity’s resource management. I have it running on High priority in task manager and during the imports, the disk runs at 0-40% and the CPU runs at 0-20%. I’m running Unity 2021.1.15f1 PE. If anyone has any ideas on what to fix, they would be appreciated.

There is currently unknown issues with the editor which should be pinned at the top of this forum.
That bring said, the one stress point that spikes hard for me when using the editor sometimes is Memory usage, using over 90% of my 16 gb or ram.

Okay. Thanks for the info. I’ll wait for a patch to be released and then update.

It’s probably related to the fact that you have your project on a USB drive.

Okay. I’ll look into that as well. Anyways, is there a version of unity 2021 that is unaffected by this bug. Also, I’ve been using the USB for quite a bit, and it wasn’t happening before I updated to 2021.1.15f1.

Good news. Hopped on today and the editor seems to be running faster. It’s not perfect, but I lowered the quality settings and disabled lighting and post-processing during asset imports. Hope the info will be useful to anyone else.

I’m finding with a good HDD almost 5 minutes to load an initial load a project, with and a good SSD its seconds not sure why it would be so different in performance.
