Bug report: https://unity3d.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/IN-39015
Issue tracker: Unity Issue Tracker - "Assertion failed" errors are thrown when searching in the Scene with the "Decal" Renderer Feature enabled
My project was working perfectly fine before I upgraded it from 2021.3.19 to 2022.2.15. Now it has a big problem.
Unity just explodes in play mode when typing anything in Hierarchy search box.
Steps:
Open my project in 2022.2.15.
Open “RunOnce” scene.
Enter play mode.
When you see the main menu screen (after the logo animation), type anything in Hierarchy search box and see Unity explodes (in Console) similar to my screenshot attached “a.png”
That sounds like a non-LTS bleeding edge build of Unity.
Anytime you go beyond LTS you are an unpaid test pilot.

Well, it’s not a beta version nor an experimental/preview version.
Obviously, I filed the bug so it can be fixed in near future, hopefully.
In the year of 2023, are we going to treat the full release applications as bleeding edge or alpha/beta versions?
I think until it officially becomes LTS, I would treat it as ‘beta’.
.1 ← Alpha
.2 ← Beta
.3 ← LTS
Not ‘official’ designations, but just how I see it.

They have a separate Beta channel. For example, currently, 2023.1 is beta version so, the way you see it is simply wrong.

I did say they weren’t official titles. Just how I, and most of the community, I would wager, see it.
What Unity say and what Unity do are separate things. If it quacks like a duck… as they say.
