I’m trying to pitch Unity for making downloadable games for sale on major casual portals (Big Fish Games, Gamehouse, etc.).
For the most part, I think it’s pretty easy: Unity gives me an enormous arsenal of reasons why we should use it. There’s one question I can’t answer, though:
“Are there any other Unity games on ?”
As far as I know, the only Unity game on Big Fish right now is our own Mr. Jones’ Graveyard Shift. Unfortunately, this is the game that caused our publisher to make us switch engines in the first place. It was our first game, and had a few major bugs. The biggest problem, though, was an incompatibility with the Big Fish wrapper where NullReferenceExceptions turned into crashes.
We have a lot more experience making games now, and I’m quite confident that even if this incompatibility still exists, we can make stable, fast casual games really easily in Unity.
But why isn’t anyone else?
