Unity forums should level up to a CMS!

As a front disclaimer: I have no idea what CMS Unity is using for these forums right now.

However, things like the Geshi Filter alone are reason enough to upgrade this archaic interface we’ve come to love over the years.

The hardest part will be converting the existing database, but so long as the current site was set up even half-decently, it shouldn’t be terribly hard to convert to a nice, modern CMS like Drupal.

As someone who has grown spoiled by Web2.0, a newer, cleaner (and yes, it would be faster!) Unity forums would be really great. Please please please please make it so!

what CMS?

I personally would have been willing to bet its PHPBB, perhaps some PHPBB2 - PHPBB3 intermix

I second this.

I figured I’d give it the benefit of the doubt? I think I’ve seen “Powered by PHPBB” somewhere here, but I didn’t know what that was. I guess that answers that question.

not sure about that but the listing bottom right, the profile and the way the part above the actual content frame is structured is clearly phpbb style

Is it just me, or do I not see the required links at the bottom?

Someone must have missed that >_>

it’s a forum not a cms,cms normally the content being filled with the author not user such as news site, phpbb is a forum engine, version 2.x(current unity forum) is very old :(,3.x already released couple years ago and much more advanced,i am having problem with current one if i refresh the home index couple time it will loose the unread/new post/thread list :(.Vbulletin IPB would be much better for commercial company like unity as it’s more reliable and advance forum engine.

I only recommend a CMS because it could be used to handle a lot of the Unity site’s needs, since many of them have various forum modules that can be used.

I’d preferr a software change from phpBB 2 to InvisionPower.Board, Woltlab Burning Board 3 or vBulletin.

I’d prefer Unity upgrades the site PERIOD.

I’m not concerned with how UT manages their unity3d.com site. Whatever they’re doing is fine as-is. What this site (forum.unity3d.com) needs is merely a forum upgrade. Mainly I’m interested in being able to optionally turn off avatars and get rid of those horrific image sigs, but hopefully whatever they upgrade to is reasonably clean and not overly cluttered with extraneous webbiness. Also some spambot prevention measures would make things easier for the mods and less annoying for users.

i noticed there’s no youtube forum code! :-/ we need that for the showcase!

I would also like a better insert code, where when you click on the URL button, a messagebox will pop up where you can enter the url and it will automatically wrap the tags around it.

vbulletin already has a cms mod,it’s a simple but enough,it will show the latest forum activity(post, thread, stats),many mod is available like yotube embedded, gallery, social networking mod,and yeah i can imagine it’s gonna be cool :),and also there is dozen of mod to fight spambot

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou, UT!
