Unity Game Controllers syncing with iPhone or Android

Hello,

I've seen people sync their iPhone and Android phones to Unity iPhone and Unity Android. I'd like to know how this is done. Do I need Unity iPhone software or Unity Android software, or could I sync my iPhone to free version of Unity as a game Controller.

Any help is appreciated.

Unity Remote is currently for Unity iOS only.
