Hey there! Just wondering, do indie devs and any other dev using Unity engine think it is a great idea that Unity would do a Unity Games Store (where you could sell your Unity-made game…just ilke the Epic Games Store (EGC)?)
(you) Unity has Asset Store but not have Store for selling game (like something Else than Steam or EGC)? I am guessing it is a mixture of things; like cost of keeping such a site alive (since you/they already maintain Asset Store) and like maybe competition, but the/your store would relieve the competition and allow indie games a new place to sell their Unity-Made game - On Unity GameStore. I think maybe you/Unity does not want to deal with the ‘indies fighting on the own company website competiont’…but on Other companies platforms - just not Unity’s Game selling platform - like keeping it ‘separate things’/kind of like ‘conflict of interest’/not wanting to deal with this selling part (when Epic seems to be doing quite well with their EGC). I know this was propositioned before but it seemed like a no from you/the company; juist wondering if devs think is good idea/a request and could this convey them to do it? It could a breath of fresh air and a new place to would allow games to be discovered (outside Steam/EGC/Gog etc…other main ones; when you think about it you can see it two ways : 'there are Many platforms…so no need for Another One…we don’t want to ‘break/divide’ the customer base - so need ‘one big place to sell their games’ not 50 of them; the 2nd way: 'there are Not That many game selling places; you can count them on your two hands…so what is anotehr one or less a problem?)…let’s be real/let’s face it…we need a new place to put our games. (I’m thinking that you/Unity does not want to cater to indies that want to make larger AAA 3D games because these devs represent a micro% of the total Unity Devs, you/unity feel that they mobile games that are made - adn should be on othe rmobile platforms, so no need for a Unity games platform…). Unity Game Store could have advantages and sure enough it might be packed with ass*t flips at some point (like Steam) but that happens to anygame selling platform; the point would be we need Steam 2.0 or Epic Games Store 2.0 on PC. where competition is relatively low because starting platform…indies making VR/AR/mobile or PC games could be on the platform but would have be ‘separate’ so to not making mixing mess, not saying itc an’t work…but oftenyly the problem is ‘being swamped by tons of other unrelated games’…so having so room to breather and get some ‘discoverability’ on the Unity game store…could possibly be a good thing. I’m probably forgetting something/not know something of why Unity/you would not want to (consider to) make a game store for selling the games we make with your engine.
Imho, before Unity Technologies opens their own games store (which I don’t think would be a great idea at all), they should create commercial games first - just like Valve or Epic Games. Just to see what other devs using Unity in production go through on a daily basis.
