I have just updated my Dell XPS 15 9560 to the latest Windows version and see a massive drop in frame rates. (Updated from Build 19041 to 19042)
All drives and BIOS have been updated to the very latest, some manually to ensure that.
Is this a known issue, or perhaps a known issue in general PC performance after this update ?
My fps has dropped from 33fps to 17fps, I see a downright half performance. I hope there can be some insight from Unity on this matter and some tests to see whether somehow this could be handled.
βThe Unity Editor (Game tab) now runs at ~160FPS whereas it used to run with ~300FPS on 2004 with the same version and settings.
1080p30 YouTube videos also tend to stutter here-and-there now (all browsers).β
What this user reports is exactly what i see as well. Shutter in all videos from web and around half Unity performance.
EDIT: Now trying to use Game mode off and see if changes anything
I post a few images with the massive problem performance drop issue after Windows 20h2 update. The images above are from Sky Master ULTIMATE asset, same project and Unity version opened in two same PCs (DELL XPS 15), one with 20H2 Windows and another with previous version.
The black theme is from my other Dell, exact same specs as my main laptop. The project is same and opened from same external HDD in both PCs, so is the exact same project and Unity version (both installed in the external HDD).
The performance difference is just MASSIVE !!! There is no way this is a unsuable Unity version with this PC now, so not sure what to do.
Also it takes only 2 minutes to load and get in the project in PC with older windows version and 10+ minutes in Windows 20h2 version.
Note the system worked same and as fast as on the other PC before I do this update, nothing else changed.
EDIT: I have also turned off game mode and set Unity to explicitly use NVIDIA GPU for max performance in my settings. Also all power options are set to max performance. The drop happens in both Unity 2021 Beta and 2019.4.x, so is not Unity version related. Here is some more people having the issue Reddit - Dive into anything
