So I have a joystick GameObject with the XR Grab Interactable component on the (child object) stick.
The joystick moves a vehicle object which has the joystick inside of it, but when I grab the stick and move the vehicle, the stick detaches from the vehicle and stays in the same spot while the vehicle moves forward.
I’ve tried everything I could possibly think of, so now I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong or the attach transform of the XR Grab Interactable might be just broken.
It sounds like maybe the Grabbable object is being parented to your hand (in the XR Rig) and the rig is not moving with the vehicle. Is that what’s happening? Basically when you grab an object it becomes part of your hand for physics purposes. There might be an option to change that (i.e. don’t parent the object to the hand when grabbed).
You could have a reference Transform on the vehicle (say, the base of the joystick, but not part of the joystick itself) and move the XR Rig every frame to maintain the relative position.
Or you could keep the player stationary and move the world, although I think this would break the pyhsics and probably be a disaster.
