Unity graphic?

Hi, i’m a high school student in Vietnam who just enter 3d game development with a little knowledge about this but i’m trying hard on study and hope in future i will make a game nice enough to share everybody to play. For now i’m learning about graphic(modeling, texturing,…) but there is a question with make me so confused and it’s like this:

So you see the first image i took from the tut about light in unity and it’s graphic look so poor like the assassin creed bloodline that i play in my psp, the second image which i took from Sewer Control Room in example project in unity, it’s graphic look much better than the first image but still on the third image i took from dead trigger which made from unity engine and it’s graphic look solid, hard or some kind of like that( I can’t find a define word to describe it) and i see that more and more future game have a nice graphic like this third image(crysis 2. deus ex,…). The question is why is it so different between three image? is it about light? or texture? or some kind of effect?.. i hope someone will understand my poor english(very sorry about this) and answer me, thank.

Hiya, your English is better than 95% of native english speakers.

I think the only probem you are seeing is SIMPLY THE LIGHTING.

  1. try moving the light(s) around

  2. try changing the intensity, etc, of the light(s)

Don’t forget some people are incredibly well paid to do nothing other than light scenes.

It’s just like making a film, it is very, very hard to do well.

Hope it helps!

Just to piggyback on what Fattie has mentioned, there are other factors that come into play:

  • If you have the Indie (or Free) version of Unity, some high-end features like lightmapping with normalmaps, realtime shadows, global illumination & area lights will be off limits for you until you purchase the Pro version
  • The quality (high vs. low resolution) of textures
  • Well placed special effects

There are probably many other factors to consider but I think the above constitute for a major difference in the game’s visual quality.

I wish you the best in your new endeavor with Unity!
