Unity grass performance is very bad on Mobile. Is Vegetation studio good for mobile

Hi guys,

I hardly see any person suggesting Vegetation studio for Mobile. As of now, without vegetation studio, even small number of grass reduces performance by a lot. I downloaded Gaia 2, not much improvement at all. I see many places good talks about Vegetation studio, but will be good for Mobile?

I’ve never used Veg Studio. But I can definitely vouch for GPU Instancer for extreme performance boosts… But I do think Veg Studio has some form of Instancing on it, so it may give you the same results + great forest management. But whether GPU instancer is better idk.

I can only say from my own experience, tens of thousands of trees, grass converted to cross quads - still 60 FPS.

GPU Instancer Requirements.
Requirements:

  • DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 and Shader Model 5.0 GPU (Windows, Windows Store)
  • Metal (macOS, iOS)
  • OpenGL Core 4.3 (Windows, Linux)
  • Vulkan (Android, Windows, Linux)
  • OpenGL ES 3.1 (Android 8.0 Oreo or later)
  • Modern Consoles (PS4, Xbox One)

Ask the developer. He has an official thread on these forums.

Depending in your scene size you might try Infinigrass system, this is a batching system and have many users using it on mobile, though depends a lot on use case so may or not be suitable. The coming v2.0 will be further optimized as well especially for shader model 3.0 plus devices and wont require special hardware otherwise and not using compute shaders or direct scene drawing.
