unity hangs when importing .max model

hi everybody,

when copying a max-modell into my asset folder, unity tries to import it and hangs. in the task manager i can see a “3ds-max”-process working, the memory is growing and growing, but nothing happens. this happened 3-4 times until now.
after waiting for 10 minutes or so i tried to close unity (nothing happened), then terminated the 3ds-max process and then a unity message-box opened, asking if i want to quit and save. that was my luck, so i didnt loose the changes made to the scene.

i really think this behavior should be changed. the import-process should be stoppable at any time.

Try import FBX, It is the best solution.

I had the very same problem when I was trying to import a blender file
and I even tried to import as .fbx file but unity still freezes

then I delete all the shape keys(often used for facial expression), and then it works normally.

I thought it was because I delete all the unused vertices to minimize my model
but some of those vertices are used in shape keys, so unity can’t find them, so error occurs.
