Unity hangs whenever saving 3dsmax (.MAX) file...

I’m new to Unity and run into an early stumbling block that is getting frustrating. I have my .MAX source file alongside my assets exported as .FBX. As soon as I save my .MAX file Unity will try to update it, but for some reason it hangs for around 5-10 minutes. Considering I’m using .FBX is there anyway to get Unity to stop trying to update every time I save my .MAX file?

EDIT: It also keeps coming up with this error.

to Temp/MaxComandPipe failed: Access is denied.

I had to install the service pack for 3dsmax 2012 for anyone who has this issue and needs an answer.
