Unity Indie: Occlussion Culling?

Hello guys,

I am trying to find out how occlussion culling works, but cannot find any (up to date) tutorial. I also heard that this is available for Unity Indie (which I use at this point), but I think not, since on Unity website it says: Pro only. But I DO see: occlussion Portal and Occlussion Area in the Unity Indie version. So I googled Unity Occlussion Portal and Area but also then, no luck… I cannot see what it does in the inspector, and cannot find any tutorial so can you guys help me out a little bit? Is Occlussion Portal and Area free for Indie? And if so, how to use it?

Thanks in advance,

Maurice

Unity Indie does not have occlusion culling but there are packages in the asset store you can use.

You mean like for the Indie version also?

Yes, for Unity Indie.

Wrong section. Quite obviously. How do you guys miss these things?

If it makes you feel any better I reported it as being in the wrong section before I answered it. Don’t think it went through though as it sat there working for a long time after I hit “Send” and I finally gave up and hit the back button.

Look, I looked for 10 min for the right section and can STILL NOT tell you what section it is supposed to be in because it is VERY UNCLEAR. I thought about shaders but doesnt seem to be right either (is more for coding). Animation? Scripting? I dont think so. So I thought about miscelanous section (or something like that) but its NOT THERE. Work in progress can be anything so OR Unity forum has to be more clear or you are just plane wrong. Sorry.

Unity Support, right above scripting.

What is works in progress for then?

for showing off things you are working on but not quite done.

Yes, so for support aswell? Still not totally clear. Btw: I am not sure I am having a technicall issue…you see? Its not obvious at all(!)

But thanks for answering my question DrewRadley.

There is a sub-forum that is literally called “Unity Support”. Not sure how much more clear they can make it.

Technicall issues sounds more like reporting bugs, or having a sort of abnormal difficulty with something. If it only would be called: Unity support, yes, that would be much clearer indeed. The term " technicall issues" revers to something completely different then what I wanted to ask. Just a simple question about if occlussion culling is available in Unity Indie. You call that a technical issue?

It IS called Unity Support! Works in Progress is for exactly that- things that you are working on, that are in progress, that you’d like to display. Then there’s Unity Support. For support. With Unity. And no, Occlusion Culling is not in Unity, only in Unity Pro.

WIP - Work in progress - Show the community on what you are working on without asking for Unity features technical support.

Also I heard a legend, told by the elders, that there is a small thread at the very top of each sub forum. That thread is named: Rules and it will give you a hint on what that sub-forum is about.

Stuff of Legendzz !
