Unity Indie reimbursement

I posted this in the main thread about Unity 2.6 in the “announcements” section but seems like people were too busy complaining about Unity being free to answer my question…

I bought Unity indie a couple weeks ago and received the email giving me the options of upgrading or reimbursing. I decided to go for the refund, which seemed to simply involve clicking on that link in the email, then fire off the email saying “refund on order number xxxx” etc.
They mentioned in the initial email that it might take some time before we get reimbursed, but I was wondering

  1. if there is a ballpark estimate on when that will be? Are we talking, within the week, or in a couple months? Because money’s kinda tight, would be good to know around when we’ll be getting it =/

  2. I payed via PAYPAL, iirc. Does that mean they will refund PayPal? I’ve never dealt with paypal when it comes to receiving money (as opposed to spending). Will PayPal just as easily transfer the money back to my account as it did take it out in the first place?

thanks

ps: please don’t reply if you’re just gunna complain/defend Indie going free. I’m sick and tired of seeing these arguments all over the Unity Community :frowning:

I quite agree!

I don’t personally have paypal (being 15), but my brother has it and he says it is just as easy to receive as to spend money. So you should be fine there.

As for the retrieval of the refund I am positive that you will not have to wait a couple of months to get your money back.

  1. Apparently a large part of the Unity team was out of the office this last week, so I imagine it would be a few days for them to get back up to speed, but I doubt it would take more than a month.

  2. I’ve seen refunds go both ways with Paypal; adding money back to the account and adding money back to my bank account.

Alright thanks a lot, both of you.

Is anyone else following the same road as me (refund)?

I would LOVE Unity Pro for a grand, but I just don’t have that much money. Iphone isn’t any interest to me, either.

200$ for alot of people within my age is alot of money, Thats enough gas money for 4-6 weeks or 2 months. ( You can tell I dont have a truck)

If this is counted as annoying whining then every protest in the world is annoying. Unity probably say this coming anyway and I’m sure they have a plan.

I’ve received the money straight back into my bank account. Please consider that I had bought on the 25th October, so they should have simply clicked the button “refund” (on the 29th) before actually cashing in. Some 6% of the total sum was lost because of commission fees and rate exchange pound/dollar.

hey thanks for the reply. When they reimbursed you, did you get an email from Unity confirming the reimbursment?

Yes sir, I got one confirmation e-mail from their sales team (“your refund request has been processed”) plus one automatic e-mail from the third party they use (giving out the identifier and the details of the refund transaction). Good luck.
