Sorry - I still find it very weird making topics on an international (english) forum in a different language.
I don’t know about what the mods think about it but I’d still say it’s good manners to even make a topic like this in english as probably everybody who visits here to read is able to read and/or write the english language.
I know I wouldn’t like reading something in spanish, italian or any other language I don’t understand, here.
Sorry for the negativity.
Otherwise keep up the efforts. A good alternate site to read about news and help with Unity is always appreciated.
I and the other mods have discussed this subject and decided that we don’t have any problem with threads conducted in languages other than English. What we do consider bad form is when someone drops a non-English post into a thread that is otherwise all English. Basically, we don’t think anyone should attempt to have a mini-discussion that most people reading the thread would probably not understand. This might seem a bit hypocritical when I’ve just added an English post to a thread that started off in German but I think it’s justified in this case. So there.
I never right understood why moderating a forum is needed a lot. Administration, deleting spam, … such things are needed but moderation seems to be mostly superfluous to me. Why not let the people decide in which language they prefer talking to each other generally?! If it’s a language no one understands, no one will recognise it or other users will tell them that it’s an better idea to post in english. I believe in that most individuals are clever enough to get such things sorted out on their own.
Same with threads which go offtopic, that’s part of a normal discussion. Closing such threads feels like overmoderation to me because if you’re interested in the thread, then read it, if not, stay away and i’ve often witnessed threads going offtopic then going back to interesting aspects which were ontopic again. I also think it’s fine if people insult each other to a certain degree, that’s part of a Streitkultur - google says: contending culture.
I mean it comes down to if people can handle it and how liberal/grown up a forum is. I hope we won’t turn into a forum like for instance the Blitzforum were threads get locked due to reasons which i think are often wrong. Less police, more hippies, please! :O)
andeeee said that the topic should stay in the same language so please do your off-topic discussion in another thread and continue speaking German - please.
