Unity iOS basic vs. iOS Pro

I am sorry if this was asked already, but i was not able to find any thread going deep into iOS basic vs iOS pro Unity licene.

1.) what are the real limitations and disadvantages of basic vs pro. I read in detail the comparsion of both on store page, but it doesnt tell me anything. Do i realy need the build size stripping ? will it help me to siginificantly reduce the size of build ?

2.) does it mean i cant have any videos in my game, like intro animation ?

3.) I understand there is Unity splash screen, are there any other watermarks or unity symbols force to appear in actual game ?

4.) are there any issues with developing and publishing game on appstore with the basic version against the pro version ?

5.) do i get discount $400 from pro version if i bought basic version ?

6.) are there any other issues with basic version i should be aware of, is it recomended to develop with the basic version ? ( i.e. pro version is surely better, but its ok to develop with the basic version or its realy bad idea to develop on basic version ).

Again, i am sorry if the questions were already asked. I am very grateful for any response. Any kind of personal experience with developing on the basic version would be very appreciated. Thanks again.

Luke

  1. Do you need it? No, or else it wouldn’t be optional. It can reduce the size by some megabytes, depending on what you use. It can help you get below the 20MB “barrier” (which isn’t really as big a deal as some people seem to think; there are plenty of high-selling games above 20MB).
  2. Not built-in, maybe by using a plugin.
  3. No.
  4. No, or else iOS Basic wouldn’t be sold. Why buy something you couldn’t use?
  5. Yes.
  6. Again, if it wasn’t usable, it wouldn’t be sold.

Thanks a lot for quick reply, that clears things for me a lot. Great i dont have to spend additional $1100 at least for now.

it would be $2600 if you don’t own unity pro yet though as the pro mobile are addons to unity pro and can’t be bought on top of the free unity.

Also the stripping is normally of less importance for mobile than for example occlusion culling which requires iOS Pro if you want to use it on iOS for example

Oh, well thats good to know. Didnt know you have to have Unity pro so that you can buy iOS Pro.

I forget to ask one question. When you have your game on appstore and you eventualy buy pro version and you have new build of game, is it possible to replace the game with the new build ( i.e. not uploading it as a new game, but just replace it ) ?

Yupp replacing the old build with a new iOS PRo one is no problem.
Apple and the appstore don’t care about the unity license, only about the bundle identifier etc, so the stuff you setup on apples end
